Archbishop to launch Greater London Presence and Engagement Network

The Archbishop of Canterbury will join the Bishops of Chelmsford, London, Tonbridge and Southwark and representatives from 120 parishes across London at a series of events on 1st June to launch the Greater London Presence and Engagement Network (PEN).
The Church of England's Presence and Engagement programme is about valuing and strengthening the major contribution to a strong civil society of parish churches in all the multi religious neighbourhoods of London and across the nation.
The event which takes place in East London, includes a seminar: 'Present and engaged: congregational witness in a pluralist society'; a celebration Eucharist to launch the PEN website and programme at St Mary's, Cable Street at which the Archbishop will preside and preach; and a showcase of Christian resources for multi faith neighbourhoods at St Paul's Shadwell. The Deputy Lord Mayor of London, Richard Barnes will be present.
The seminar brings together theologians and parish leadership to consider the issues raised by Christian witness in diverse neighbourhoods; the Eucharist illustrates the breadth and commitment of the Church of England to the neighbourhoods of London; and the marketplace provides an insight into the resources available to support and deepen Christian engagement.
The Archbishop of Canterbury said:
"Presence and engagement speaks of the Church's longstanding and continuing commitment to live in the midst of our most diverse neighbourhoods as a sign of God's love for all and as a contribution to the wellbeing of all who live in them. I warmly welcome this initiative and the opportunity to discuss and celebrate the contribution of so many churches across London".
